Pangururan is on the western side of Samosir Island, near the bridge connecting Samosir to the Sumatran mainland. The area is known for its hot springs on a hillside overlooking Lake Toba.

Getting to Pangururan

  • From Tomok: after crossing from Ajibata, drive along Samosir's eastern and northern shores. Journey time varies with the number of stops.
  • From Sidikalang via Tele: an all-road route with no ferry, entering Samosir over the Tano Ponggol bridge.

Bathing tips

  1. Check the water temperature before getting in — some pools are quite hot.
  2. Limit your soak, especially for children and elderly people.
  3. Drink water afterwards, as the body dehydrates easily.
  4. Keep a towel and a change of clothes in a separate bag.

Sample Samosir loop

  1. Tomok (royal tombs and the Sigale-gale puppet)
  2. Tuktuk (lunch)
  3. Pangururan (hot springs in the late afternoon)
  4. Stay in Pangururan or return to Tuktuk

Why bring a car to Samosir

Public transport on Samosir is limited. With a rental car, you can stop at viewpoints, weaving villages and beaches without waiting for transport.

Check the ferry times back to Ajibata if you are not leaving via the Tele road.

Plan your trip

Check which vehicles are available on your travel dates on the reservation page. For an overview of routes and travel times to the Toba region, see our guide to renting a car from Medan to Lake Toba.
